2023 – AWARDS NOMINATION INFORMATION

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD (five or less FTE employees)

Acknowledges and celebrates high achievement in the business community, honoring a business that exhibits true business excellence. This business has achieved business growth and seeks to continually improve employee relations through mentorship, training and development is considered to be an outstanding employer. They’ve established a reputation for providing a superior level of customer service and embrace a commitment to quality. The award is presented to a business with outstanding achievement such factors as development of creative product(s) and production, degree of innovation, marketing techniques and extent of expansion; it also recognizes a business that is prominently involved in the community at large.

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD (six or more FTE employees)

EXPORTER OF THE YEAR

Acknowledges and celebrates outstanding contribution to the local economy through the export of products and/or services. It is exports to markets outside of Nova Scotia that qualify.

NOT-FOR-PROFIT OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is presented to an organization that exemplifies excellence and innovation in their programs, services and projects. Their commitment to growth and expanded programs, as well as service, community involvement, sustainable practices and or job creation development demonstrate a dedicated focus on achieving their vision and mandate. A not-for-profit organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the community, while establishing a reputation for delivering exceptional programs and services that makes Amherst an area a more enjoyable place to work and live.

WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARD

Acknowledges and celebrates the unique challenges women owned businesses face. This business has demonstrated excellence in entrepreneurial management and leadership. Has a strong scalable business model with plans for future growth. They’ve shown a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility and to enhancing the well-being of the larger community. They have also confirmed their entrepreneurial spirit through perseverance, the courage to take risks, and the ability to seize opportunity.

TOWN OF AMHERST – COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND SERVICE AWARD

For an Amherst business that demonstrates leadership and active involvement in the community. This not only includes monetary sponsorship and funding but participation in community living. Participating in the Earth Day clean up, the Town Christmas parade, and organizing community events are examples of eligibility for the award.

Award guidelines

Selection committee: President, and Treasurer of the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce, Representative of Cumberland Business Connector and one other (to be confirmed).
A business or organization may be re-nominated in any future year, however they are only eligible to win every three years.
A business or organization may self-nominate or be nominated by another party.
In the event that a business or organization is nominated in more than one category the nominee will be contacted and asked to confirm in which award category they wish to be remain nominated for (one category only).
All nominees will be required to complete an application form to finalize their nomination.
Three finalists for each of Awards will be announced prior to the Awards Gala and the recipients will be announced at the Gala.
Nominees or those nominating are not required to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce, however the nominated business or organization must be located in the Cumberland area.
