2024 – AWARDS NOMINATION INFORMATION

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD (ten or less FTE employees)

  • Acknowledges and celebrates achievement in the business community, honoring a business that exhibits business excellence, though growth, mentorship, training and development.
  • Superior level of customer service and a commitment to quality.
  • Demonstrates achievement in areas such as development and production of creative product(s), degree of innovation, marketing techniques and extent of expansion.

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD (more than ten FTE employees)

  • Acknowledges and celebrates achievement in the business community, honoring a business that exhibits business excellence, though growth, mentorship, training and development.
  • Superior level of customer service and a commitment to quality.
  • Demonstrates achievement in areas such as development and production of creative product(s), degree of innovation, marketing techniques and extent of expansion.

EXPORTER OF THE YEAR

This award celebrates a business that exports its product or service outside of Nova Scotia, recognizing the value of exports to the strength of our community.

  • Acknowledges and celebrates outstanding contribution to the local economy through the export of products and/or services.
  • Exports to markets outside of Nova Scotia.

START-UP BUSINESS OF THE YEAR (five years or less in business)

This award recognizes and celebrates a new business that demonstrate excellence and innovation while contributing to the local economic infrastructure and community development. The criteria merge aspects of both emerging businesses and entrepreneurs to honor their contributions to the prosperity and well-being of Cumberland.

  • Introduction of a new or unique product or service that meets market needs.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards in the quality of products or services offered.
  • Exceptional service that enhances customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Demonstrated potential for business growth and expansion in the near future.
  • Active participation in and contribution to community development and well-being
  • Demonstration of strong entrepreneurial qualities, including leadership, innovation and perseverance.
  • Contribution to the development of skills that benefit both the business owners and the wider community.

TOWN OF AMHERST – COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND SERVICE AWARD

This award recognizes the value to a community of a business that contributes its skills, expertise and leadership in ways beyond their everyday operations.

  • A business or organization located within the Town of Amherst, that demonstrates leadership and active involvement in the community.
  • Factors may include: monetary sponsorship and funding, participation in community events; excellence in their programs, services and projects; sustainable practices and job creation.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY – COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND SERVICE AWARD

This award recognizes the value to a community of a business that contributes its skills, expertise and leadership in ways beyond their everyday operations.

  • A business or organization located within the County of Cumberland (but outside of the Town of Amherst), that demonstrates leadership and active involvement in the community.
  • Factors may include: monetary sponsorship and funding, participation in community events; excellence in their programs, services and projects; sustainable practices and job creation.

Nomination Deadline – October 5, 2024

Awards Gala – October 24, 2024 

Winners will be announced at our Business Awards Dinner and Gala to be held this year at the Seawinds Restaurant at Northumberland Links Golf Course. The evening will feature a networking time with appetizers, a three-course fall harvest dinner, guest speaker Ava Czapalay, Deputy Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration, as well as the awards presentation.

Award guidelines

  • Selection committee will be determined by the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce and will include Board members, staff and partner representatives.
  • A business or organization may be re-nominated in future years, however they are only eligible to win once in every three years period.
  • A business or organization may self-nominate or be nominated by another party.
  • In the event that a business or organization is nominated in more than one category the nominee will be contacted and asked to confirm in which award category they wish to be remain nominated for (one category only).
  • All nominees will be contacted by a Chamber representative to gather the information needed for a full application.
  • Finalists for each of Awards will be announced prior to the Awards Gala and the recipients will be announced at the Gala.
  • Nominees or those nominating are not required to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce, however the nominated business or organization must be located in Cumberland County.
